What is The Seam?
The Seam is a student-run literary magazine for Shaker Heights Highschool students to show off their literary and artistic talents! Students are able to submit a variety of pieces such as poetry, short fiction, nonfiction, paintings, photography, fiber arts, digital art, ceramics, etc. A committed team of students work together to design the magazine and select pieces using their composition skills. Annually, we publish free, physical copies of the magazine for students, faculty, and community members.
The Editors
& Editors In Training

Editor
Karmen Latten
Karmen has been a part of the SEAM for 3 years and an editor for 2 years. She loves doing submission review and reading & looking at all of the creative pieces her fellow students submit. In her free time, she listens to music, does her makeup, collects trinkets, and drinks various teas. She enjoys reading short stories and fiction novels.

Editor
Leela Natarajan
Leela has been a part of The Seam for 3 years, and her favorite part of making the magazine is trying to figure out all the design software. Outside of school, Leela writes, bakes, and sews (with questionable success). Her favorite book is currently One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston, but it changes constantly. She loves reading poetry, creative fiction, and any sort of writing you’ve got!

Editor
Isabel Siegel
Isabel Siegel is a senior, and this is her third year as an editor for The Seam! She loves writing everything from short stories to plays, and plans to continue pursuing creative writing in college. Outside of The Seam, she can be found onstage in Shaker’s theatre productions, and is also editor of the school newspaper. Her favorite part of this club has been reviewing all the incredible writing and art submissions, and making connections with new people.

Outside of the Seam, Lila is a member of the Shaker Heights Women's Soccer Team and when she is not at school she enjoys reading, cooking, listening to music, and making art.

Editor in Training
Megan Fraser
Megan is super excited to return as an editor in training for her junior year! Besides The Seam, Megan participates in SGORR and Youth Ending Hunger. She also plays trumpet in Wind Ensemble and is an IB student. Outside of school, Megan volunteers at her church and has a fellowship with the Shaker Heights chapter of the League of Women Voters. Megan’s favorite activities include reading, doing puzzles, and watching rom-coms.

Teacher Advisor
Mr. Needham
Hi everyone! I’m Mr. Needham. I’ve been advising school literary magazines for 10 years and am thrilled to continue work on The Seam, SHHS’s creative arts and literary magazine. In particular, I love seeing the creative ways that students here at Shaker express themselves (both in writing and through their art), and I find purpose in working with members of the magazine in curating and designing each edition of The Seam in ways that serve to highlight the imaginative spirit of the school. I am also especially excited about our newest venture, this website, which we hope will serve to supplement and compliment our physical publication of our magazine. Thanks for visiting our site and we hope that you remain a frequent guest as we continue to grow our publication.
